Child Therapy

Children don’t usually say, “I’m having a hard time with my emotions right now, and I need help coping.” They show us they’re having uncomfortable feelings with their actions and behaviors. Whether your child is experiencing changes in his/her mood, low self-esteem, anxiety, challenges in school, friendship difficulties, loss, frequent tantrums, trauma, or they are processing family changes, I can help. I have a unique ability to empathize and join with children. Using play therapy and creative modalities, I can help children to communicate, make sense of their feelings, and begin to heal.

I am a Registered Play Therapist with extensive experience working with children in mental health clinics, and as a clinical school social worker. I have a wide range of training that allows me to draw on a variety of approaches to find the best way to work with a child. I have completed intensive postgraduate clinical training in Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I have a certificate in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and one in Creative Arts Therapy with a focus on Art Therapy. Further, I am trained in Child Development, Attachment Theory, and Play Therapy.

My vast experience providing psychosocial assessments and creating individualized education plans in schools, allows me to help explain the IEP process and interpret school reports. I take special care in speaking with outside providers, including pediatricians, schools, and psychiatrists in order to best support and maximize treatment. I also incorporate Bibliotherapy into my work, and have co-authored the book My Grief is Like the Ocean: A story for children who lost a parent to suicide.

But most importantly, I can help you understand the developmental needs of your child to enable you to have a health relationship with them.  You know your child best, and I see our partnership as invaluable. Things might seem difficult now, but together, we can help your child overcome whatever is standing in their way of happiness.

“Enter the children’s play and you will find the place where their minds, hearts, and souls meet.”
